Working from pre-constructed models and sketches, Kristofoletti paints with mineral-based pigment developed for exterior use, methodically applied by hand and brush.



KRISTOFOLETTI JOSEF

1980

He lives and works in Austin, Texas. He gained a BFA degree in painting at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2003 and an MFA from Boston University in 2007. Recent and future projects include Golden Hour (2021), a 600m2 commission for the Albright-Knox Museum Public Art Initiative, Buffalo, New York; Gradient Wind (2020) office complex at 222 Second Avenue South, Nashville, Tennessee; Slat City (2020) Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada; Tau Ceti (2018) mural commission for the City of Austin Convention Center parking garage; Higgs Boson (2010) CERN, Geneva, Switzerland; and a site-specific project for Austin- Bergstrom International Airport in collaboration with Matthew Mazzotta is scheduled for 2022. In autumn 2022, Kristofoletti will be included in Crit Group Reunion at The Contemporary Austin. His work has appeared in several publications including Wired, The New York Times, The Guardian, Boston Globe, and Symmetry Magazine. In 2013 he represented the United States at the Bienal del Sur in Panama City.
